Series: Touhou Project
Character: Patchouli Knowledge
Timeline: After Subterranean Animism
Personality: Patchouli is first and foremost a loner, preferring to spend her time reading or writing books on magic. She's not much of a proactive person, instead waiting for others to speak to her or for problems to get to the point where she has to personally take action. However, if someone disturbs her while she's reading or messes with her books, she'll put it aside to deal with you. Although she enjoys spending her time in the library at the Scarlet Devil Mansion, she rarely gets any sunlight, and has poor health due to the lack of vitamins. It is said that she suffers from both asthma, which occasionally interferes with her spellcasting. Quite a handicap, considering she's a fullblooded witch.
She does however has a few friends. Among them is the mistress of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, Remilia Scarlet and her younger sister, Flandre. Remilia is probably the only person who Patchouli will actually volunteer to help. She also has an assistant to aid her in the library, Koakuma. She's rather polite to those she calls friend or to those who treat her and her books with respect. However, she looks down with disdain upon those who constantly disturb her, such as the gate guard Hong Meiling, or the mansion's maid Sakuya Izayoi (although she shows some appreciation to Sakuya from time to time). She also sees those two as incompetent as others always seem to make it past them and intrude upon her library.
One thing that will cause Patchouli to leave the confines of her library, is the pursuit of knowledge. Even though she's read and written so many books, there are still things she does not know. Such as the mist that began to cover Gensokyo. She also occasionally receives visits for information because she knows so much, especially about anything to do with magic. Although she often doesn't give a straight answer, either because she's too busy reading a book, or just because she doesn't feel like it.
A secret hobby of hers is that she likes to divide her magic to correspond with the days of the week on the Japanese calendar. She always knows what day of the week it is, but for some reason has trouble recalling the date. Patchouli also has a belief that in the outside world, magic and science are really one in the same. Another little fun fact is that although everyone else in the Mansion drinks tea, she occasionally drinks coffee as well, likely to help keep her awake to tend to the library longer.
Background: Practically nothing is known about Patchouli's past before she came to the Scarlet Devil Mansion. What is known, is that she is a witch capable of using all seven forms of elemental magic, and that she suffers from asthma and anemia. At some point, she befriended Remilia Scarlet and began to tend to the library in the mansion, reading and writing many books during her stay (Rumor has it that she's written every book in the library!). The atmosphere of being indoors with thousands of dusty books at all times with no sunlight did not help with her health issues, and if anything made them worse.
Eventually, Patchouli was forced to deal with intruders in the library who had bested both Hong Meiling and Sakuya Izayoi. One of the intruders, Reimu Hakurei, had business with Remilia due to the mist the Mansion was emitting, but as her friend, Patchouli couldn't just let her continue. She too was defeated however, and would retreat, and return to tending the library. The other intruder was a human witch named Marisa Kirisame, who intended to 'borrow' things from the mansion, including some of Patchouli's books. By this point, it's said that she had been at the Mansion for over 100 years. Matters get resolved after Remilia is defeated, and life would mostly return to normal. Although Marisa would continue attempting to borrow Patchouli's books, who refuses to willingly let the girl take any.
Eventually, another source of strange mist begins to cover Gensokyo as well as large feats suddenly appearing. People show up to Patchouli for information because she knows so much about magic. However, she disappointed them. This was something different. Her curiosity getting the better of her, Patchouli leaves the mansion in search of answers to the cause of the mist and feasts. She would discover that the source of all this was an Oni named Suika. After Suika's defeat, things would once again return to normal in Gensokyo, and Patchouli returned to the Mansion's library.
This doesn't last though. A geyser erupts near the Hakurei shrine, which releases many earth spirits. Reimu, the shrine maiden turns a blind eye to the spirits, instead enjoying the new hot spring. Patchouli however, is concerned with the release of these spirits. And so she pays a visit to Yukari Yakumo, a youkai older than Gensokyo itself for advice on the situation. It is decided that Marisa Kirisame would be sent to deal with the problem, and that Patchouli would aid her. Although she wasn't thrilled with the idea, Patchy teamed up with the human witch and they got to the root of the problem, which turned out to be a major misunderstanding. After they returned to the surface, Patchouli returned to the mansion and life would resume as normal. This is where she is being taken from.
Abilities/Additional Notes: Patchouli is physically very frail due to her poor health, but she is extremely skilled and knowledgeable about magic across all seven of the major elements, as well as some additional. Fire, Water, Wood, Metal, Earth, Sun, and Moon. She is also capable of magical flight.

Royal Diamond Ring: Sun/Moon
Gold lasers form a ring around Patchouli and shoots out smaller lasers for a decent period of time, and the ring will slowly expand after being cast. Patchouli can move after summoning the golden honeycomb. This deals massive damage.

Spells Learned/Currently Researching in Paradise:
These spells are not actually the original spell, but versions she created and adapted through trial and error to use with her own elemental set-up.
Curaga: Wind/Earth (Kingdom Hearts)
A powerful single target spell that heals even some of the most serious injuries. Does not work on broken bones.
Explosive Runes: Earth/Fire (Dungeons & Dragons)
Magical runes that explode when read. Rather than the original runic system the spell used, this spell has been adapted to be used with both the Common and Japanese alphabet.
Invisibility: Moon (Dungeons & Dragons)
Target becomes invisible for a period of time. Ends on damage, and can be seen through with certain spells/abilities. There really isn't much difference here than with the original spell.
Researching:
Reflectga: Still in the process of getting down to the roots of the spell in order to decide which elements she could recreate it with.
During her stay in Paradise, she will attempt to learn new spells from other worlds if she finds access to spellbooks. (Which seems quite likely.) Please let me know if this isn't okay.
Patchouli also suffers from Asthma and Anemia, which often render her unable to recite her more powerful spells. There are days where she is feeling better however, and is capable of going all out.
Advocate Note: Patchouli is not an advocate.

[Accidental Video Feed]
[The 3STP turns on to show a girl with long purple hair wearing what appears to be pajamas and a nightcap. She's completely oblivious to the device at the moment, and is immersed in a book. Upon closer inspection she looks rather...unhealthy. Her skin is deathly pale, and her frame appears weak. Over 100 years in a dusty, windowless library will do that to you.
After a moment there's a knock at the door, which finally causes her to glance up. There's a very displeased look on her face. Someone obviously doesn't like to be bothered. She then slowly looks around the room from her seat on the hospital bed. Did she really just notice that she wasn't back in her library? Yup. Her frown deepens and she closes the book she was reading. Then she finally notices the 3STP on the table next to her before the feed times out.]
Sample RP:
Patchouli sat back in the large armchair behind the library desk, exhausted. This was quite different from the library back at the mansion. Everything was so...modern, and very tidy. There wasn't much dust either. Whoever had been the previous owner had obviously taken great care of this place. It was nice, but she made her own adjustments. The windows were now boarded and covered with heavy drapes, and the bright ceiling lights were replaced by dimmer lights along the walls. It made her feel more comfortable, but it had taken all day to accomplish.
She sorted through the pile of books on the desk in front of her. This 'Paradise' had residents and literature from many different worlds, which piqued her curiosity. So after she had finished adjusting the library to her own liking, Patchouli had gathered an armload of books on some of the various worlds. She helped herself to a cup of coffee, which apparently the previous owner had stored in the back room. This was going to be a long night, and she wanted to learn as much as she could before she was forced to retire for the night.
Companion’s Personality:
Koakuma literally means 'little devil'. True to her nature, she's usually rather carefree and mischievous. Constantly trying to reorganize Voile, and trying to have a little fun while she does so. She tends to be rather clumsy too, much to Patchouli's dismay when she has to help reshelve armloads of books. Another trait of hers is that she tends to act thoughtlessly. Like maybe trying to help with one of Patchy's experiments after she goes to sleep.
However, Koakuma is loyal to Patchouli, and by extent Remilia and will not hesitate to follow their orders. Which is most often aiding Patchy with her work in Voile, but occasionally runs errands elsewhere, such as when Patchy requires new spell components or things like that.
Companion’s Abilities/Additional Notes:
Koakuma is capable of using basic magical danmaku, as well as flight.

[The video feed turns on to show a girl with long red hair and...wings on the sides of her head standing in the middle of the library. She gives the camera a little bow before speaking.]
I'm here to announce that Miss Knowledge will be unavailable for a few days. I apologize for any inconviences this causes.
If anyone should need to reach her, leave a message and I will get it to her.
[She gives another quick bow before turning off the feed.]
